Richmond folk live healthiest, longest
Richmond has the highest healthy life expectancy in England according to new figures.
Data released by the Office for National Statistics this week said men in the borough had a healthy life expectancy of 70.3 years and women 72.1.
The results put Richmond at the top of the list of places to live if you want to increase the chances of living a long and healthy life.
Healthy life expectancy is an estimate of how many years people a will be healthy in their lives, rather than simply how long people are expected to live.
The lowest expectancy was in Manchester for me, at 55 years, and Tower Hamlets for women, at 54.1 years - a 15-year difference to Richmond.
In every local authority analysed, expectancy was longer for women than men and the data showed a north/south divide for both genders, with the north-east significantly lower than all other regions.
