Get the chance to see what happens when a cup of water is poured on to hot oil and how the fire service cut people free from crashed cars at this year’s Walton fire station open day.

The event on September 5 will feature a demonstration in the kitchen fire display unit where the audience can see the potential fire ball that would be created when just a cup of water is poured on a hot oil fire.

Firefighters will also demonstrate how they cut apart cars that have been involved in collisions and will have on display fire engines and boats they use.

On the lighter side, they will be selling tea, coffee and cakes and will have key rings and fire service toys for sale for the fire fighters charity.

Watch manager Andy Begg said: “It’s an opportunity to meet the fire fighters protecting your community and get an idea on what equipment we use and what we get up to.”

The event will run from 3pm to 8pm at the station in Hersham Road.
