Fresh look at opera coming to Teddington
The emotion of an entire opera will be delivered in an hour-and-a-half performance.
Villa In Canto will present their alternative to traditional staged operas when they bring their version of L’Elisir D’Amore, by G Donizetti, to Teddington.
The light-hearted comedy is an all time favourite with audiences and the intimate show will be performed by a cast of singers who have sung across Europe. The group aim to maintain the integrity and grandeur of original plots by filling the opera with emotional energy.
Music director Riccardo Serrenelli says the popular opera has a humorous treatment of love and deception leading, unusually, to a happy ending.
He says: “In Verona we perform in the historic Palazzo Camozzini and it is a real pleasure to perform in the unique surroundings of the Normansfield Theatre which captures the period feel of the opera in a very special way.”
After the opera guests will have the opportunity to meet with the cast, which includes Milena Dobrzycka, Renato Cordeiro, Ferruccio Finetti, and Giulio Boschetti.
Tenor Renato Cordeiro says he loves his role of a simple peasant who is easily tricked and says his sincerity leads him to the love of his life.
He says: “English audiences in Italy love the shows and it is great to be able to perform to an English audience in Teddington.”
L’Elisir D’Amore at the Normansfield Theatre, Langdon Down Centre, Teddington on Saturday, September 7, at 7.30pm. Tickets £20.
