Strawberry Hill House exhibition offers historical fancy dress
A new exhibition has started at Strawberry Hill House that features handmade historical costumes for children to dress up in while visiting the Horace Walpole’s Gothic Castle.
The costumes, accessories and wigs are created and designed by the Sewing Bee, a group of volunteers with a talent for sewing, who came together to make history just a little bit more fun for children.
Laura Teale, property operations manager at Strawberry Hill House, said: “The group meets once a week and it’s also a nice social thing for them to get together and sew.”
The exhibition runs until October 2013 and Sewing Bee is supported by John Lewis, which provided fabric and a sewing machine to help with their costume creations.
Children can also enjoy dressing up in the costumes while taking part in the House’s many educational workshops.
