Richmond girl takes on Camino Walk for Mulberry Centre
A girl is to complete the 109-mile Camino Walk in Spain this September to raise funds for the Mulberry Centre.
Harriet Mercer, local photographer and writer, is hoping to raise £1,500 for the centre that provides free support to anyone affected by cancer.
Having lost her father, aunt and cousin to cancer, the cause lies close to Harriet’s heart.
She said: “I know how cancer has a real impact on people’s lives and those who are close to them. I wanted to support a local cancer charity that makes a real difference in the local community.”
She was told about the Camino Walk in February by a Spanish magician on a train to Waterloo, describing it as an “extraordinary meeting”.
Harriet suffered a ruptured angiomyolipoma on her kidney five years ago that left her in a life-threatening condition.
Having spent five weeks in hospital and six months recovering, she is now keen to make the most of her good health.
She said: “I’ve been looking for a challenge that both celebrates my recovery and ‘puts back’ into the system that so helped me.”
