A Twickenham man is on track to raise £100,000 for children’s hospice Shooting Star Chase by cycling more than 300km across the French Alps.

A team of eight cyclists will take on the Trois Etapes challenge, a non-profit televised cycling event which helps raise millions of dollars for charities all over the world.

Julian Miall, whose son Ethan is cared for by the charity’s Hampton hospice, said: “There is no doubt that this challenge is going to be hard going but it will give a massive sense of achievement.

“It is the ultimate competitive pro-am cycling experience and because charity fundraising is a massive part of their efforts, it really struck a chord.”

Ethan has received hospice and home support from Shooting Star for the past five years.

Mr Miall said: “We owe a massive debt of gratitude to Shooting Star Chase for getting us through those really tough first years.”

The cycling team, which includes Mr Miall’s brother Simon, and professional road racing cyclist Dan Lloyd, have been training hard for the event, which takes place next week.

The Trois Etapes is a team cycling event held under race conditions across three Alpine peaks. The event commences on July 26 and runs for three days.
