A group of 10 children will see plates they designed decorating the walls of a new Richmond food market.
To celebrate the opening of the Whole Foods Market store in Richmond on October 8, charity School Food Matters set up a plate designing competition.
From nearly 700 entries, the judges, which included MP Zac Goldsmith, TV chef Paul Merrett, Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins and editor of the Richmond and Twickenham Times, David Rankin, picked the 10 winners from a shortlist of 100.
Zac Goldsmith said: “The judging was extremely difficult because of the hard work children had put into their designs, and because the quality was so high.
“I want to thank everyone who took part, and congratulate the 10 winners.
“Whole Foods Market will begin life in Richmond with uniquely colourful walls.”
Store manager at Whole Foods Market Richmond Larry Hadley, who also judged the competition, was impressed by the entries, which asked the children to reflect the theme things to grow and eat.
He said: “Carrots, peas, cabbage and strawberries were all popular choices and the winners made them come to life in very imaginative ways.”
