HUNDREDS of people turned out to see Bicester’s £70 town centre re-development finally open.
At 8.30am soldiers from 23 Pioneer lined the new Pioneer Square and a plaque honouring the troops from the regiment was unveiled by the chairman of Cherwell District Council Lawrie Stratford and Lt Col David Clouston, commanding officer.
Minutes later at 9.15am Sainsbury’s store was opened by school girls Klaudia Kabzinska, 14, and Rushani Arumguham, 10, who used giant red scissors to cut the ribbon.
Next was the Vue Cinema, which had picked five worthy residents whose hands were cast in concrete and will be placed on the wall outside the movie theatre, for its opening ceremony.
Lawrie Stratford of Cherwell District Council, said he was “extremely proud” of the new development and its link with 23 Pioneer Regiment, based at St david’s Barracks, Bicester.
The chairman of Cherwell District Council, Lawrie Stratford, said: "I am really excited for the people of Bicester."
