Three Croydon athletes were named English Schools champions at the English Schools Championship finals in Birmingham last weekend.

Whitgift student Stefan Amokwandoh won gold in the intermediate boys' triple jump with a leap of 14.33m, a new personal best outdoors.

He was joined on the top step of the podium by Imani Lansiquot, who won the U17 women's 100m in 12.19 seconds, slower than the personal best 11.91 the Coloma Convent schoolgirl set in the semi-finals.

Croydon Harrier Ashleigh Clarke, who finished seventh in the intermediate girls' 200m in 25.52, was part of the successful gold-medal winning Surrey 100m relay team who ran 47.09.

There were silver medals meanwhile for Croydon resident Kertis Beswick in the senior boys' 110m hurdles, when he ran 14.22, and Harrier Omar Reid, who advanced his personal best by almost five metres in the senior boys' discus when he threw 49.84m.
