A festival celebrating all things cycling will be given a French twist because it falls on Bastille Day.

The French edition of the Vulpine cycling fete aims to entertain cyclists and non-cyclists alike and will offer French food, music, frame building, arts, bike goodies and a screening of the iconic Tour de France’s Mont Ventoux climb.

Cycle company Vulpine launched 15 months ago and held its first festival in Balham last June.

Founder Nick Hussey says: “It’s to show cycling can be cool and fun and that they aren't mutually exclusive.

“It’s a distillation of what Vulpine stands for. Cycling, design, small British business and enjoyment. It’s an antidote to boring huge hanger-like trade shows.

“It is meant to be fun and accessible for all but the hell-raiser.

“There is obviously loads of interest for cyclists of all ilks, plus non-cyclists can have fun too, and kids get activities as well. But bright young things will love the design aspects too.

“We want to show cycling is cool and fun for all.”

Mr Hussey says the venue for the festival, La Cloche at the Lion in Teddington, is a deliberate nod to both the festival’s French twist and the proximity to hundreds of cycling routes in nearby Bushy and Richmond Parks.

He says: “Firstly La Cloche at The Lion is a big friendly high-quality venue with a cycling-friendly owner, Julien. That bit is essential.

“Next it’s in one of the cycling heartlands of the UK. Richmond Park is the defacto cycle circuit for London cyclists, Sigma Sport is a brilliant shop just down the road and you’re just a stone’s throw from Box Hill and the Surrey Hills. And they do amazing food and have screens to show the Tour de France.”
