SUITES, chairs and dining room furniture are on the wanted list at Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Staff and volunteers at the borough's dozen Hospice shops are on the look out for good quality furniture donations as tstock is running low.

Hospice Retail Manager Janet Fletcher said: “We don’t know if it is anything to do with the fact that people are replacing their household furniture less often because of the recession; but we are certainly seeing a reduction in donations to the Hospice of decent quality second-hand furniture. We are now struggling to for donations of suites, chairs and dining room furniture etc.

"In difficult economic times, more people seek help and support. Items of furniture contribute significantly to our fundraising.”

In the case of upholstered furniture, by law, the Hospice can only accept those that still have the ‘fire’ labels attached.
