Zac Goldsmith backs energy switch scheme

Energy: Mr Goldsmith is in favour of the money-saving scheme Energy: Mr Goldsmith is in favour of the money-saving scheme

MP Zac Goldsmith has supported the Big London Energy Switch, a new collective energy switching scheme co-ordinated by London councils including Richmond.

The scheme could see thousands of households across the capital change their energy supplier simultaneously, in return for a lower fixed term energy tariff.

Households have until late March to express their interest and councils will then negotiate with energy providers for the lowest tariff in return for guaranteed business from thousands of homes.

Households can then decide whether they want to sign up.

The Richmond Park MP said: “Everyone is aware that energy bills are rising, and that they will keep rising for the foreseeable future.

“This is a very simple idea which could benefit thousands of Londoners.

“The more people express interest at this stage, the stronger the councils’ hand will be in negotiations, and the lower the tariff offered.

“There is no obligation and nothing to lose, so I encourage everyone to take part.”

A great idea though was a bit disappointed to discover that the regsitration site does not appear to use https security only http security which is not very safe for when entering your personal details such as name & address. Can all too easily be sniffed off the internet by a hacker!! I will try again in a week or 10 days or so and see if they have updated their security to https:.
