'Just a bit of metal': Trains halted after false land mine alarm near North Sheen station
A suspected World War Two land mine spotted near North Sheen station today has turned out to be a piece of scrap metal.
The bomb squad, British Transport Police (BTP) and the Metropolitan Police investigated the suspicious object at 12.30pm, but declared it “non-suspicious” at 1.30pm.
Train services ground to a halt following reports of a bomb, with many trains from London Waterloo being cancelled.
A BTP spokesman said: “We were called at around 12.30pm to reports of a land mine close to the station.
We inspected the item and it was deemed non-suspicious.
"It looks like it was just a bit of scrap metal – this was confirmed at 1.30pm. The line was re-opened a 1.30pm.”
