Red nose fun around Richmond
Get your red noses and donations at the ready as Richmond starts to gear-up for Comic Relief 2013 – which turns 25 this year.
A meeting with a (lengthy) twist is being held to raise money by St Mary’s University between March 13 and March 14.
The 24-hour meeting will comprise 24 one-hour meetings, 24 topics, 24 agendas and 24 minute takers. There will be a range of dress codes as well as rules and regulations, which mean monetary or humorous forfeits for those who break them.
St Mary’s school of sport, health and applied science set up the charity event, which pokes fun at pointless meetings.
Senior lecturer Rik Mellor, who organised the event, said: “It’s not a new concept, the idea that people emerge from meetings at work and question their value; we wanted to hold the ultimate meeting that would make people question their attendance and involvement, but also that had maximum value in an ironic way – Comic Relief seemed ideal.
“We hope the event will raise lots of money for a fantastic cause and be interesting, funny and challenging in equal measures – for those attempting the 24-hours without sleep this will be difficult. Can we keep the laughs going and the eyes open?”
To donate, visit my.rednoseday.com/sponsor/SHAS24hourMeeting or follow them on Twitter at @24_hour_meeting Sweet treat lovers wanting to donate to Red Nose Day should head to the Cavan Bakery in Hampton, Hampton Hill or Teddington, where they will be selling Red Nose Doughnuts from March 9 to 15.
For every doughnut sold, 20 per cent of the profits will go directly to Comic Relief.
The initiative is part of the Paint Teddington Red campaign, which aims to raise £2,000 for Comic Relief, bringing some fun and footfall to the town at the same time.
The bakery, which has been baking delicious bread and cakes for the local community s since 1929, hopes to make the charitable treats an annual thing. To place an order, call 020 8941 5247.
Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day will be held on Friday, March 15, with hopes that the £108,436,227 raised for good causes across the UK and Africa in 2011 will be broken.
