Goodbye to well known East Sheen woman Babs
The family of a well known East Sheen woman who died on her 96th birthday have paid tribute to their optimistic relative who, even in her old age, travelled every year.
Having lived in East Sheen for 79 years, Florence “Babs” Turner was a very familiar face.
She died on February 18, while visiting her daughter Christine in France.
Babs was the daughter of William Hillier, a builder in East Sheen for many years. She married Frank Turner, with whom she had four children, who all attended Sheen Mount Primary School in the 1950s.
Her son Paul Turner said: “Mum was an amazing woman. Up until mid January, she was active and thoroughly enjoying herself.
“Even in her mid-90s, Mum would fly every year to Dubai for a holiday, and she had incredible optimism and stamina. “While we are saddened by her sudden death, we are also celebrating her life and the fact that mum had 96 years of living life to the full.”
For many years, Babs ran a babysitting agency in East Sheen, Richmond and Barnes.
All of her children and most of her grandchildren visited her in France in the last two weeks of her life. Her son Paul said: “Mum was determined to reach her 96th birthday. She had a lovely day, surrounded by family, and then went to sleep and died very peacefully.”
The memorial service will be at Sheen Baptist Church on Friday, March 22, at 3pm.
