A businessman is swapping his suit for 25 fancy dress outfits, worn all day every day for 25 days, to mark a quarter of a century of Red Nose Day.

Giles Dempsey has already caused a stir with his charity stunt on his daily commute from his Hampton home to work in Fulham, in client meetings, pitches and creative briefings.

The business director for marketing agency Billington Cartmell has already dressed up as a diver, dinosaur, banana, penguin, panda, spaceman, Buzz Lightyear and Edward Scissorhands.

The 36-year-old admitted it was challenging getting into work mode while dressed up but said he has had some great reactions as well as some unusual ones, including going to his first antenatal class.

He said a highlight was the England vs France rugby match at Twickenham, where he dressed as Wally for a massive Where’s Wally in front of an 80,000 strong crowd on Saturday, February 23. He said: “It’s a universally recognised character that both the French and the English know.

“What was quite funny was the only person who just didn’t know who I was my dad who I went with. People were calling out ‘Wally’ and he kept asking why so I had to explain to him.”

The dad-to-be came up with the idea after he received an overwhelmingly positive response when he spent a day dressed as a banana with his brother a few years ago.

He said: “It was really uplifting and just made a dull day into something so much better for everyone.”

Mr Dempsey started his challenge on Tuesday, February 19, and has raised more than £1,000 for Comic Relief but admitted he was already looking forward to getting back into his normal clothes.

He has attracted the support of comedian Rob Brydon and rugby player Scott Quinnell, who have boosted his sponsorship by promoting his twitter account @25outfits.
