Young equestrians from the Horse Rangers’ Association (HRA) were given safety training by the council’s road safety team.

HRA director Jackie Bryans said she was grateful to the council for its support.

She said: “The safety of our members is paramount and our officers are constantly updated on training. We are proud of their skills and how they educate the children.”

Councillor Chris Harrison, cabinet member for highways, said: “We actively look to support the training of horse riders on our roads so that they can remain safe at all times, especially our younger residents.

“As with all vulnerable road users, being seen is crucial and the high-visibility jackets that we are able to contribute greatly.

“The horses on our roads are often forgotten in terms of road safety but we are a borough that has a relatively high incidence of horse riders on our roads on account of the links with the Royal Parks, and therefore it is essential that we lend our support to this type of training.”
