A brave carer rescued an elderly woman from a house fire this evening.
The blaze started at the back of her home in Holmesdale Road, Teddington, and she was saved by a man, believed to be a carer.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution and police closed the road to traffic.
Tyler Curle, 18, lives in Holmesdale Road and said he knew the elderly woman.
He said: “I saw a lot of ambulances come down the street. When I came out I saw a big fire out the back of a house.
“She was out the back in the garden with some oxygen and after a while they brought her out in a wheelchair.”
Other residents reported seeing smoke coming from a large detached property opposite Pond Way.
Firefighter Rob Davies said they were called at about 5.40pm and had put the fire out by 6pm.
He said: “The resident was removed by a carer. She received no serious injuries but has gone to hospital as a precaution.
“It was in the rear of the house. We are currently not looking at anything suspicious at the moment.”
