Lucky escape as tree falls across Castelnau in Barnes

Timber: Nobody was hurt by the treefall Timber: Nobody was hurt by the treefall

Pedestrians had a lucky escape after a large tree fell across Castelnau in Barnes.

No one was hurt but the tree caused some traffic delays because it blocked northbound traffic.

Jon Simpson, who lives in the road, was walking to the shop when he heard a loud crash.

He said: “I heard a massive crunch, like a road traffic accident. All of a sudden I saw the tree right across the road. I was walking out of my flat towards the shops. It was literally 30 seconds after I had passed it.”

He said the tree narrowly missed another pedestrian and it was lucky nobody was hurt.

He said: “People didn’t know where the hell it had come from because it wasn’t as if it was really windy.”

The fallen tree was reported to Richmond Council and officers from the parks, trees and highways team removed it.
