Single mother opening second salon in Teddington says 'just go for it'
2:42pm Wednesday 30th January 2013 in News By Clare Buchanan
Success story: Tyler Forbes, Malakai Othal and Stacey Forbes, with business partner Ken Oputa
An inspirational single mother is due to open her second salon.
When Stacey Forbes fell pregnant as a teenager and found herself living in hostels, she never dreamed she would ever own and run her own business.
After years of hard work the 27-year-old opened her first hair and beauty salon, Tyler’s Mum’s Salon, in Station Road, Hampton, six years ago and is now looking forward to opening her second business.
She said: “We are expanding now and giving opportunities to a lot of young people.
“I am very excited. I was a single mum, in hostels pregnant at 15. I never thought I would own my own salon but I did it.
“I think that things that come too easily go too easily. You have to put the effort in, the hours in, to get the best out of life.”
The mum-of-two plans to take on five apprentices at her new salon, TMS Hair and Beauty, which was due to open in The Causeway, Teddington, on Monday, February 4.
She said: “I think there are a lot of opportunities to give people and with the recession at the moment I know a lot of people are in need.
“I think it’s an amazing opportunity to give people the chance as well as for us to expand.
“If you work hard at anything eventually you will get it but nothing comes for free and everyone starts somewhere. Just go for it.”
