Tenants with a proven history of antisocial behaviour could be stopped from renewing their housing contracts.
Richmond Council has advised registered housing providers in the borough to consider antisocial behaviour when deciding on fixed term tenancies.
The advice is set out in the council’s new tenancy strategy, which recommends how tenancies should be managed locally and aims to protect the living environment of other residents.
Councillor Geoffrey Samuel said: “I believe strongly that those who have been involved in criminal acts and antisocial behaviour should not get the right to renew tenancies.
“There are many situations where good law abiding residents have their lives made a misery due to antisocial behaviour and they shouldn’t have to stand for it.”
