Hip Hampton square up for consultation

People can have their say on a new village square designed to create a community hub.

The proposed square in Hampton North is part of Richmond Council’s two stage £1m investment programme to improve the area and make it more attractive.

An open space has already been created around the Old White House and picnic benches and play equipment have been installed.

The Old White House building will be demolished to make way for the square, which will be next to Sainsbury’s, the Tangley Park Family Centre, the Hampton Youth Project and the White House Community Centre.

Residents can influence the design, including flower beds, grassed areas, paving stones, fountains, cycle racks and trees, by taking part in a consultation.

Councillor Virginia Morris, strategic cabinet member for environment and planning, said: “Our vision for Hampton North is to work with local people and businesses to invigorate this corner of our borough by creating a focal point for the community. 

“We want to establish a Hampton Square that connects different parts of the area.

“The plan is to create a contemporary but classic neutral space with a range of facilities and historical references to farming.

“By turning this underused area into a bustling economically viable village square we hope to breathe new life into this area of Hampton and make it one in which residents will be proud of living.”
