Whitton to take part in pilot history scheme
3:08pm Wednesday 9th January 2013 in News By Rachel Bishop
Whitton people are invited to take part in a project highlighting the historic and important aspects of the area.
A pilot initiative of Then and Now will launch this month, to celebrate and preserve everyday heritage elements in the borough.
The Environment Trust for Richmond and Richmond Council are asking volunteers to come forward and share their knowledge and pictures of buildings, streetscapes, street furniture and signposting in the area.
The project, which came about in response to the village plans, will lead to the Environment Trust creating a database relating to information on buildings of townscape merit and other aspects of the historic built environment.
Councillor Pamela Fleming, cabinet member for business, community and culture, said: “Living in such modern times makes it easy for us to take for granted the incredible history which surrounds us all and our unique and individual village character.”
There will be two Then and Now information events. One on Thursday, January 24, from 6.30pm to 8pm at Whitton Community Centre in Percy Road and another at Twickenham library, in Garfield Road, on Thursday, January 31.
