A schoolgirl raised more than £200 for Children in Need by challenging herself to swim 100 meters fully clothed.

Wearing pink and white spotted pyjamas seven-year-old Amelie Hopkinson jumped in at the deep end of the pool and swam four lengths after deciding she wanted to make a difference to other children’s lives.

Her mother Catherine Sutherland said: "It went really well. She was very proud of herself. She smiled all the way.

"She was nervous before. She was worried she wouldn’t do it because although she can swim the distance in pyjamas it was a different matter."

The Collis Primary School pupil raised £257 for her efforts at Lensbury sports club, in Broom Road, Teddington, on Saturday, November 17.
