A video created by students and staff from the performing arts department at Richmond College has won more than £6,500 of new lighting for its Edmund Kean Theatre.

The musical theatre piece, filmed over the summer term by recent graduates, won the Coemar LEDko Challenge last month.

It was created by Laura Beacham, Philly Bean, Lauren Powell and Hannah Puckering.

Pepe Gudino, head of performing arts for the college, said: “The prize means that students will now be able to produce high quality lighting during our forthcoming productions while the benefits for the students who will be the next generation of technicians and designers are huge."

The nationwide competition was the brainchild of lighting specialists White Light and manufacturer Coemar as a way of offering entrants the chance to win a package of state-of-the-art Reflection LEDko lighting fixtures.

Entrants had to submit a short video or storyboard explaining why they would benefit from a lighting upgrade for their theatre space.
