The Thames towpath had been churned into a mud bath by the time TV presenter Beverley Turner and her friends walked along it last Sunday in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Less than 24 hours after the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, the Chiswick resident, who is married to rowing champion James Cracknell, organised a 10-mile Crocus Walk along the path where thousands had watched the sporting event.
Beverley, her mum and her friends decorated their own begging bucket and set out on a long muddy riverside stroll.
Turner, 34, said: "We slid our way along in the sunshine and quickly gave up caring about the state of our trainers.
"The great thing about the Crocus Walk is that you decide where, when and how far you walk. It's not about pushing your pain boundaries, but doing some fun exercise, enjoying the spring weather and raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer."
Despite the muddy conditions, the women collected £80 in coins along the route.
Combined with their previous collections, the group raised £450 overall for the charity.
