Strettle: Care at home in driving seat

Harlequins winger David Strettle believes his former housemate Danny Care is behind a late-season revival that sees the side on the brink of the Premiership play-offs.

Quins' 28-15 win at Bristol on Sunday moved them to within four points of league leaders Bath, with Charlie Amesbury, Mike Brown, Gary Botha and George Robson scoring tries.

Care, 21, has forced his way ahead of axed England scrum-half Andy Gomarsall since impressing in the Heineken Cup defeat to Stade Francais in January.

His form has been such that a resurgent Quins have lost just one of their last 6 matches, and has seen him elevated to the senior England training squad.

And Strettle, who has an outside chance of facing Newcastle Falcons at the weekend, believes the rising star's run in the side has sparked Quins' dramatic return to form.

"I felt a bit sorry for Danny last year because he was only getting a game here and there," he said.

"At scrum-half, you can be dictated largely by how the pack performs.

"Some games he played in they weren't that great, which made it hard for him.

"He has come in this year and, in my eyes, has been the major reason why we have been playing a quicker tempo and playing better."

Strettle, who barely saw the ball pre-Christmas before injury curtailed his season, believes a Care-driven Quins is more suited to his game.

"Before I got injured, Quins were playing pretty conservatively and weren't really throwing the ball around," he said.

"As soon as I went off with England, they started being a bit more adventurous and that was the frustrating part on my behalf.

"To come back and play for a play-off position is great.

"With the way we are playing at the moment, I really feel I can benefit the side."
