Motorists fuming as repairs bring chaos
 |
| Nightmare: The roadworks brought delays around the town centre |
Motorists in Richmond could face further delays as the digging up of more roads gets the green light.
The National Grid completed work in George Street last Saturday but it has further work planned in Paradise Road, at the junction of Eton Street, Parkshot, by Clarence Street, and along Sheen Road.
One mum, who asked not to be named, was left "spitting with fury" at the delays to her drive from Barnes to The Old Vicarage School, in Richmond Hill, which turned a 15 to 20-minute school run into a 45-minute journey.
She added: "It's despicable. It's never been this bad in three years, they don't care.
"Surely it makes sense to let the council know when they intend to dig up the roads?"
A spokesman for National Grid said: "We appreciate it will impact the local area but our aim is to go in now and get as much as possible done."

They said National Grid is working with the council to co-ordinate all work in the borough.
The work in Paradise Road and Parkshot is due to begin on Monday, March 31, and be completed by Monday, May 19.
They added: "We do have plans for work in Sheen Road but no details have been discussed at the moment."
Richmond Council has reportedly been "inundated" with calls about the spate of roadworks.
A council spokesman said: "We share the frustrations of residents and motorists and are applying maximum pressure on National Grid to complete the work as soon as possible."
Roads already affected by improvement work include National Grid's gas main repairs along Richmond Hill and Thames Water's replacement of the Victorian water main in St Leonard's Road.

Fair enough there are road works all over London at the present time mainly to replace Victorian pipes; now it includes Gas works as well.
But in Richmond it's a constant round of ''let's see which road we can dig up next''.
But the funny thing is, the main road that centres on Richmond itself; George Street, is an absolute disgrace.
It has been left in an awful state for a very long time as to drive along it you risk serious damage to one's suspension.
