Biography

MP Since - 2005 Majority - 3,731 Born - 21/07/1950, Widowed, 1 son, 1 daughter.

Education - St Paul's Girls School, Oxford University, Illinois University USA.

Previous Occupation - Banking. Second vice-president Continental Bank USA (1982-88), Vice-president Citibank/Citicorp, USA (1988-92), Chief operating officer Future Water International (1992-95), Partner Kramer & Associates (1995-99), Board Member CAIB Infrastructure Project Advisers (1997-99).

Personal Overview - Progressive new member of the Liberal benches whose success in the last General Election continues uninterrupted the Party's representation of the South Western London constituency. As a respected candidate for the London Mayoralty in 2000 she focused on Tube privatisation and policing issues. Unlikely to be in the Commons for many Parliaments, given her age, she is one of the most prominent incoming Liberal MPs and has quickly achieved frontbench preferment and advancement. Stepped down from the Shadow Cabinet in the January 2009 reshuffle to lead the party's campaign against the expansion of Heathrow Airport.

Member of the Treasury Select Committee (2005-06). Shadow Secretary of State for International Development (2006), Trade & Industry (2006-07), Transport (2007). Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office and Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (2007-09). Led the Liberal Democrat Campaign against the expansion of Heathrow Airport (2009-).
