PRAGUE is the perfect destination for a cheap weekend break.
Rural beauty spots and big-city bright lights are side-by-side, so that within a couple of minutes you can walk from an old church in a narrow cobbled street to a huge shopping centre surrounded by bars and clubs.
This eliminates the need to hire a car, and if you do want to take public transport, which comes in the form of tram, bus and underground, it is very cheap, with a three day travel pass costing 330CZK, which works out at around £12.
Accommodation is also reasonably priced.
Travellers’ Hostel in the Dlouha street is at the heart of the city, and although it is called a hostel, it has the quality of a hotel.
A twin room, with its own shower and sink as well as a toilet across the hallway and a shared kitchen, is just 800CZK per night, which is around £29.
The kitchen comes with a fridge, oven, crockery and cutlery, so that guests can make their own meals.
However, dining out in Prague does not break the bank, especially if you are adventurous enough to try the restaurants just outside of the centre.
Pizzeria DiCarlo in the street named Malá Štěpánská does a range of delicious Italian dishes, with an average price of 200CZK, which is approximately £7.
In terms of sightseeing, there is a lot to do in Prague.
As well as the obvious attractions, such as the Charles Bridge, old town square and Prague Castle, there is a wealth of other interesting spots.
Surrounding a church and park, the beautiful remains of Vyšehrad castle provide an amazing view over the city.
While just off the town square is the old Jewish region, which has a stunning synagogue and museum.
Although there is a lot to see, it is all fairly close together, so it is possible to fit it all into one weekend.
This, along with the reasonable prices throughout the city, makes Prague a great choice for a weekend break.
