What the Night is For - Review

What the Night is For by Michael Webber, Tabard Theatre

This play had a run in the West End before appearing here it is certainly one of passion. A young American couple meet, by design, after a torrid love affair which ended unhappily. Both by now have partners and children but after an uncertain start, that old black magic has them in its spell.

They mount love’s see-saw and each have their highs and lows, but you are never sure until the last few moments whether love or loyalty will win. It is a two-hander and first class playing is essential and here. Melinda Metz and Adam Penzius pull out all the stops, and by deed and word you are fully convinced of their mutual passion, although I feel that the author might have given both characters a little more likeability.

Particularly, anyone at the start, middle or end of such an affair is going to enjoy this.
