A Battersea theatre is reaffirming its status as a powerhouse of new writing by opening its autumn season with the winner of its first playwrighting award.

Bea Roberts’ And Then Come the Nightjars was picked from over 1,600 entries as a joint winner of Theatre503’s prize and will now be staged at the theatre in Battersea Park Road from September 2 to 26 in a co-production with Bristol Old Vic.

Set on a Devon farm in 2001, against the backdrop of the Foot and Mouth outbreak, the play charts the struggle of one farm amidst a crisis that saw four million animals slaughtered and a General Election postponed.

Tickets cost £15 or £12, or pay what you can on Sundays.
