Kurran and the Wolfnotes - Band Profile

2:50pm Friday 27th August 2010

Kingston’s very own Kurran and the Wolfnotes release their new single, Your Four Limbs, in September. Frontman Kurran Karbal told Will Gore what it’s like to be an indie band from the Royal Borough.

Will Gore: Do you enjoy playing gigs in Kingston?

Kurran Karbal: Yeah – firstly they are the only gigs where we can all drink because no one has got to drive home. That might sound a little thing but it’s big in our world. And all our friends come and see us play.

WG: Have you got any Kingston gigs in the pipeline?

KK: I’m hoping we will be doing an in-store at Banquet Records to coincide with the Your Four Limbs single release. Other than that, we play at the Our Friends Records open mic at The Mill every month.

WG: What do you think of the Kingston music scene?

KK: I think the Kingston scene has got way more exciting over the past few years. It’s great to see the Banquet boyos flying their flag high. Their night, New Slang, has been able to attract a great calibre of bands, as well as providing a great stage to support local talent. Nights like Peace 'n’ Dub at Bacchus are offering up more to party to than the same sounds blasting out of every Oceania around the country.

WG: Favourite Kingston haunt?

KK: Well, you can’t really beat The Mill for value, but if I’ve actually got more than a tenner it is all about The Boaters – sick jazz on Sundays.

WG: Highlight of the summer so far?

KK: We played at Latitude festival this summer and just as we were walking off stage the whole Sunrise tent collapsed.

WG: What’s your fantasy festival line-up?

KK: Nirvana, Neil Young, The Smiths and Brand New.

Your Four Limbs is released on Sepetember 13. Visit myspace.com/kurranandthewolfnotes for more details.
