LET'S face it, you’re not going to nip out to the local for anything too special – it ministers to your immediate needs, doesn’t take you for granted and is glad of your custom.
Ocean Colour Scene are a bit like the local you’ve known for half your life.
The bulk of this – 100 Floors of Perception, Mrs Maylie, Old Pair of Jeans – is OCS in neutral endlessly revisiting the second side of Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake and Seeker-era Who; but there is a shot of pure joy as they hit a tiny vein of inspiration with the gospel-flecked Sing Children Sing and Harry Kidnap, the cor-blimey tribute to the late John Weller.
Then they go and spoil it all with Rockfield, which resorts to the lazy rockstar self regard of thinking anyone’s interested in what studio they’re in.
