The lives of six pensioners who fought in World War Two will be presenting in a new photography exhibition at the Acquire Arts gallery this weekend.
Nadia Bettega's pictures of the men, who all live in the UK’s oldest military care-home the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, contemplate the parallels between the six men serving during the war and their present day lives.
They look at their experiences as young adults during the war, their loss of family and friends and how they lived as part of a wider family through their military career, portraying the impact on whom they are today and their capacity to serve others.
Bettega was raised in Zambia by an Italian father and Swedish mother but now works in London as a freelance photographer and founded Eyes Wide Open, a community partnership project aimed at facilitating creativity, innovative thought and talent in young people.
All proceeds/donations from the exhibition will go towards the refurbishment of the 300 year old Royal Hospital Long Wards.
