Dons fans and manager Neal Ardley got kitted up to support their team at an unusual venue this week.

A far cry from The Cherry Red Records stadium, eager supporters packed out Wimbledon’s Odeon on Sunday for a special screening of the new Cara Delevingne-starring blockbuster Paper Towns.

AFC Wimbledon hosted the event because of the club’s connection to John Green, who wrote the 2008 novel on which the film is based.

Mr Green is a keen supporter of the club and has recently sponsored the North Stand, now known as The John Green Stand.

Neal Ardley said: “My daughter has got the book and she loves it, but I did not know what to expect as I had not read the reviews.

“I had seen the The Fault in Our Stars and this film was also very good. It was really funny and it was great to see loads of Wimbledon fans at the event.

“We are all really proud to have John Green as a supporter of the club. It is great to have someone like John associated with the club for all the right reasons.”

John Green delivered a personal message via the big screen, thanking Wimbledon supporters for backing the film.

Paper Towns (12A) is out now.
