It has been nearly 30 years since squeaky-voiced comedian Joe Pasquale’s TV breakthrough on New Faces and his appeal has not diminished.

Joe, 53, is bringing his unique evening of funny business to Croydon’s Fairfield Halls on July 26 Dartford’s Orchard Theatre on July 31.

He said: “There’s going to be a bit of magic, a bit of painting, a bit of dancing, a bit of singing, a bit of mindreading – that’s what I do.

“People take comedy too seriously. It is what it is. I like to just go out and muck about. I have a rough idea of what I’m going to do and then I just see what happens.”

The shows are local for Joe, who grew up in Essex but has lived in Rochester for the past 20 years, and will make a change from his last job.

MORE THEATRE AND COMEDY:

He has just been touring for six months as King Arthur in the Monty Python musical Spamalot, a role which he also played in the West End.

“I grew up watching Monty Python so it was a huge thing to be able to do,” he said.  “I loved it.”

He has also been kept busy with plenty of other projects – lots of voiceover work, a Sherlock Holmes farce, panto and even a rare dramatic role in Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Joe said: “The good thing is I don’t just do stand-up. I don’t do anything long enough to get bored of it.

While he likes variety in his work, fans of his previous stand-up work will not be alienated by his new tour.

Joe said: “I don’t think my comedy has changed at all.

“I don’t do anything topical - I’m not a topical person - I don’t do anything about politics, I don’t stand there doing observational comedy about sex or anything; I just do what I deem variety.

“That’s what people still want.

“There aren’t many comics you can bring your kids to nowadays.

“I just like doing stuff that makes everybody laugh across the board, that’s what Spamalot did as well. It’s just funny and that’s what funny is. I don’t think there are any boundaries of alternative and mainstream anymore, I think funny is funny and that is the end of it.”
