Here’s something to get Formula 1 fans’ engines revving – Codemasters’ latest F1 game is coming to new-gen consoles and PC this summer, and is looking properly good so far.

F1 2015, the official game of the FIA world championship, will be released in June on PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC.

In previous years the annual F1 game has not been released until the autumn, so the earlier than usual launch will go some way to making up for the 2014 title not being available on the newer consoles.

The game will feature a new version of Codemasters’ EGO game engine as well as improvements to the handling in more than 20 areas – most notable of these being a new tyre physics model.

F1 2015 boasts “spectacular visual fidelity” (hard to argue with that after seeing the screenshots) plus a new broadcast presentation style that “recreates the unique race day atmosphere of a Grand Prix, complete with podium and grid sequences.”

Another enhancement is players being able to communicate from their virtual cockpit with their race engineer through in-game voice commands.

Codemasters says players will be able to compete as their favourite F1 star in the new Championship Season and also race in the challenging Pro Season mode, though it doesn’t explain what these modes actually are.

Mexico returns to the F1 calendar for the first time in more than 20 years later in the season, and will be included in the game.

In addition to the 2015 world championship with the current cars and drivers, there will be the chance to enjoy a fully playable 2014 season available as bonus game content.

Game director Paul Jeal said: “The handling is a vast improvement from our previous games. In particular our new tyre model is a superb step forward towards realism, letting you explore where the limit is and allowing you to instantly feel much more connected with the car. You can now experience the changes in grip caused by temperature changes, wear, car set-up, debris and weather conditions.

“Our improved vehicle dynamics much more accurately convey the difference in performance and the feel between mechanical and aerodynamic grip.

“The new Force Feedback system adds to the feeling of connection with the car and track surface. The more natural and realistic nature of the game physics also serves to ensure that the racing experience is more accessible, enjoyable and rewarding for players of all skill levels.”

F1 2015 will be published by Codemasters and distributed by Bandai Namco Games.
