Roam ghostly streets on spooky walks or get your hands dirty at terrifying workshops as Sutton gears up for Halloween, writes Olivia Demetriades.

You might be that bit too old to go out trick or treating this Halloween. However you can bet there will be plenty of events celebrating the occult for you to get involved in over the next week.

Like it or loathe it, what was once a small scale single night of the year at the end of October, Halloween has transformed into a multi-million pound extravaganza and a huge part of the calendar, with both children and adults joining in the merriment.

With the date coinciding with half term there will be a number of children friendly activities during the day playing off the Halloween theme.

However, if you haven’t a child to hand, adults can still get involved.

There are a host of Halloween nights out in Sutton from the traditional apple bobbing Halloween games, to full-on dance until you drop fancy dress parties.

You can also expect to see an excess of cobwebs, plastic bats and lots and lots of orange as businesses get in the spirit, with many pubs and restaurants altering their menus to add a Halloween flavour.

If you want to do something a little more informative than drinking an oddly named pint of beer, Enjoy Sutton is holding Halloween Horribleness tours, providing free guided tours of Sutton’s spookiest sites.

Explore and discover its eerie, buried secrets, meet costumed characters in surprise locations and prepare to be spooked and entertained by talks of the sinister and supernatural from the past.

Tickets are free, but must be booked in advance from www.enjoysutton.co.uk.

Tours begin at 5.30pm for ages eight through to 13 and at 7.30pm for over-14s.
