With kick-off for the long-awaited FIFA World Cup scheduled for just hours away, one bar is determined to recreate the Brazilian spirit in a usually quiet corner of London.

Katavento, a Brazilian restaurant in the former Liberty textiles factories of Merton Abbey Mills, has already set up screens inside and out, a barbecue and barrels of special draft Brazilian beer.

Restaurant owner Bruno Roquette, from Goiania, Brazil, said he is expecting big crowds.

Over in Wimbledon town centre, the Prince of Wales pub opposite the train station is hoping to be the match-watching hub for England supporters, with a sweepstake competition running in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Other sports bars in which to watch the game are the Slug, in Hartfield Road and the Woodman, in Durnsford Road, which is hosting a Rio opening party tonight, Thursday, with a flaming grill.

Despite the late games, the pub has pledged to allow guests to watch every match live, after the Government extended licensing hours for pubs and bars throughout the World Cup.

At the Morden Brook, in Lower Morden Lane, you can show your support for a team by your choice of burger, with country-themed fry-ups on offer from the Brazzzzilliant Burger to the US-themed Soccer Dawg.

The Crown Inn in London Road, Mitcham, will be setting up screens for customers to watch the World Cup, but Pollards Hill's Ghanaian population is expected to trek to Brixton for the game.

Finally, for those keen to avoid World Cup fever altogether, head down to the Charles Holden pub in Colliers Wood, where the rugby pub is banning all football coverage.
