The flowers of spring is the theme for this year's Herald of Spring event in Ewell next month.

Children and adults alike can enter their floral displays at the free one day event in Bourne Hall which will reflect the community’s relationship with the flowers of spring.

Thirty children have booked to enter the special Table Top Garden competition, and schools and community groups are encouraged to enter their efforts into the Best Floral Display and Best Dry and Cut Flower Display categories.

Councillor Jan Mason, chairwoman of Epsom's leisure committee said: "March is the month where flowers literally burst forth and Epsom and Ewell is redolent with the scents, sounds and sights of spring.

"I’m hoping the local community will produce a real festival of flowers."

Children can enter the competition via their school and must produce a table top garden using any floral materials in a tray or container no bigger than 17" by 13".
