Wimbledon Bookfest 2013 kicks off on the common
The nationally renowned literary festival is back in Wimbledon.
Wimbledon Bookfest has welcomed many of the top authors since its debut in 2007 and this year’s highlight will feature one of the finest Irish writers, the author of The Commitments, Roddy Doyle.
Doyle is the author of ten novels for adults, seven books for children and a number of plays, screenplays and short stories.
He received the Man Booker Prize in 1993 for his novel Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha.
Doyle will be talking to BBC Radio 4 presenter James Naughtie from 6pm on October 12 as part of the event.
Other headlines include travel writer, presenter and former Python, Michael Palin, 2011 Golden PEN Award holder, Dame Margaret Drabble, and BRIT and BAFTA award-winning composer, Howard Goodall.
Wimbledon Bookfest will take place from September 28 to October 13 featuring talks with authors, short story and play competitions, a literary pub quiz and various events for children.
Those who fancy a tailor-made poem hand-written and performed by professional poets can visit the Poetry TakeAway on the Piazza in Wimbledon's town centre this weekend, organised by Love Wimbledon.
