It takes a lot to take the title of the best steak I have ever had. It really does.

But, at the weekend, I stumbled across a new restaurant that crushed the competition of all the steaks eaten in days gone by.

Ma’Jong in New Zealand Avenue, Walton, quite simply smashed it.

Formerly Glo, the fusion restaurant provides a perfect blend of delicious cocktails and divine food.

If you want to chill with a happy hour cocktail on the comfortable sofas before a night out, catch up with friends, or explore a new date venue, the bar area provides a fantastic atmosphere.

The cocktails, which start at £6.95, are devilishly moreish.

The passion fruit mojito comes highly recommended, but the bartenders are fantastic at creating off-menu drinks if you tell them what you like.

Do not leave without asking for a strawberry spring, which was kindly created for us on our Friday night visit.

As nice as the cocktails were, the food was something else.

Staff clearly took great pride in the menu and were brimming with recommendations and advice.

We started with a selection of dishes from the starter menu, including prawn toast, duck pancakes, chicken satay and tempura prawns.

The tempura prawns were incredible and if you only order one dish as a starter, make it that.

Fit to burst, but soldiering on, we moved on to the mains and after some painstaking indecision due to the number of tempting dishes on the menu, we plumped for stone grilled fillet steak, grilled rack of lamb and sea bass fillet with Assam curry.

It is hard to know where to start.

The steak was delivered to our table on a smoking hot stone so we could cook it to our liking.

Not known for our cooking prowess, we asked our waiter to do it for us, and the result was melt-in-the-mouth deliciousness.

A truly stunning piece of meat, served with spicy wedges and steamed vegetables.

If you do not try the restaurant’s speciality, you will regret it.

Our grilled lamb was equally as delicious, delicately flavoured and beautifully presented, as was the sea bass curry, which has proved a massive hit for the restaurant.

We enjoyed our meal so much that although we had no space left for dessert, we returned a few days later to get our fill.

The chocolate box with white chocolate chip ice cream was well worth the wait.

A definite must for all chocolate lovers out there.

While the chain restaurants in Walton provide a cheap, easy night out and a lot of selection, it was so refreshing to find such an innovative restaurant with such reasonable prices on my doorstep.

I would recommend it to absolutely everyone – and will eat my hat if you do not leave brimming with as much enthusiasm for the food as I did.
