Disabled drivers set to pay for blue badges in Sutton

Disabled motorists face having to pay for their blue parking badges.

Sutton Council's executive has approved plans to allow a £10 charge to be levied on drivers with mobility problems to receive a badge, allowing them to park in specific parking bays.

The council are charging the £10 to offset additional costs arising from new centralised security arrangements for issuing passes, following a rise in fraud.

Sutton Council will now launch a consultation on the proposals, which have been adopted by other councils, and would come into place on October 1.

The passes will be valid for three years.
