An almost blind 86-year-old woman has expressed her anger after she was mugged and pushed to the ground by a man on a bike earlier this week, but she has vowed not to let the crime affect her.
Betty Clements, of Wellington Road in Hampton Hill, had her handbag snatched by a black man at about 1.30pm on Tuesday, March 11, in High Street, yards from her home.
She told police she noticed the man cycling on the pavement and she became concerned as he was getting close and she felt vulnerable.
She called out and asked him to be careful but he stopped, swore at her, grabbed her bag, pushed her to the floor and cycled off towards Hampton.
Mrs Clements, who walks with the use of two white canes, said she was "brassed off" with the attack.
"I'm almost blind and have arthritis from head to foot," she said. "He just pushed me into the shrubs and rode off.
"He pushed me so hard. I have bruises on both my legs and when I walk it really hurts.
"I'm not going out today Wednesday but I'm going out tomorrow. I'm a tough old harry. They won't affect me."
Mrs Clements said he was a black man, aged 18 to 24 years, of slim build and wearing a black woolly hat, black fleece jacket and a black scarf.
