Getting to grips with science has been the aim of staff pupils and parents at Beavers Community School To celebrate national Science and Engineering week each day last week there were visitors and activities linked to science taking place across the whole school.

The children learned all about growing, how the body works, plant and animal wildlife, and many other activities including how to make a rocket.

A science ambassador from IBM visited to support year six with their chosen topic of heat and light. Bedfont Lakes staff gave a range of presentations and workshops on local wildlife and wider global issues.

The children learned about forces from a visiting theatre group and this was followed by a family learning after school workshop.

There was great excitement at the Murder Mystery -a whodunit wildlife workshop attended by all of the junior children, while the infants were treated to sessions on animal handling.

Mairi McLeod, community teacher at Beavers who organised the programme, said: "This has been a fantastic week with lots of hands on science activities. I would like to say a thank you to everyone who contributed their time and expertise.

"Some children did not even want to go out to play, they were so interested in the topics being covered."
