A gym in Richmond completed a Guinness World Record attempt by having the most participants in a marathon 24-hour indoor cycling class.

Digme Fitness joined forces with former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, who kicked off the event on Friday, December 15, to attempt the record.

A spokeswoman for gym said: “It was a great success - we had hundreds of people ride the ‘world record’ bike and raised thousands of pounds.

“We had people coming in off the street to take part, kids coming in after their sports matches, people coming from Richmond park run, even a pizza delivery man had a go.

“We also had a donation of £500 after our instructor Laura May convinced Will Carling (the ex England rugby captain) to put her on his shoulders and squat.

“We raised lots of awareness for our charity partner, Dallaglio RugbyWorks, and the great work they do.”

The mammoth task began at 5.30pm on the Friday, with all the money raised going to the charity, which helps teenagers outside of mainstream education gets into sustained education, employment or training.

Bikes could be booked for a single hour, multiple hours or even for the entire event.

Caoimhe Bamber, founder of Digme: “We owe a huge debt of gratitude to every single person who helped us complete the attempt.

“We’ve been blown away by the generosity of the Richmond community.

“So many people contributed their time and money to get behind this cause and help Dallaglio RugbyWorks.

“Lawrence himself was great and took part in several classes - including one which from 11.30pm to 12.30am.

“The event itself was amazing – so much energy and enthusiasm, even when it was tough going throughout the night. We had people of all ages, shapes and levels of fitness doing their 1km on the bike.

“We even had a pizza delivery man stop off mid-shift.

“It was a brilliant event which really brought the community together and we appreciate the effort everyone made.”
