A woman was taken to hospital under the mental health act after threatening to jump from Richmond Bridge in the early hours of Saturday.

Police were called to the bridge at about 4.25am on August 16 after a member of the public raised the alarm about the woman in her 20s who was threatening to jump.

Officers from Richmond attended with the London Ambulance Service and the RNLI from Teddington were also called before being stood down.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Eventually the woman was talked down from the scene and was placed in an ambulance and taken for further treatment.

"She was admitted to hospital under the mental health act."
